Hehe

 

(Wahehe), a people in Tanzania, inhabiting the regions of Iringa and Mpwapwa. Their population, including the related Bena (Wabena) and Pogoro (Wapogoro) ethnic groups, is approximately 750,000 (1967, estimate). Kihehe (Hehe), the language of the Hehe, belongs to the eastern Bantu language group. Most of the Hehe adhere to local traditional beliefs; others are Muslims and Christians. The Hehe economy combines farming and cattle raising; the principal crops are corn, millet, sweet potato, peanuts, and vegetables.
