haemosiderinuria

haemosiderinuria

The presence of HAEMOSIDERIN in the urine. This occurs in cases of excessive breakdown of red blood cells with release of haemoglobin. Most of this is taken up by a serum protein haptoglobin, but if all the haptoglobin is consumed free haemoglobin damages the kidney tubules and haemosiderin appears in the urine.
