Greenland-Iceland Ridge

Greenland-Iceland Ridge

an elevation of the bottom of the sea that extends along the Denmark Strait between the underwater slopes of Iceland and Greenland. Length, 90 km; maximum depth, approximately 300 m. The ridge prevents the circulation of water at lower depths between the Greenland Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. As a result, the water temperature at levels below 400 m is - 1C north of the ridge and 8° C south of it.
