Greenland Anticyclone

a center of atmospheric activity; an area of elevated pressure above Greenland that has appeared on monthly mean maps for all months of the year for many years.

The Greenland anticyclone is a result of the predominance of anticyclones over cyclones in both winter and summer in consequence of the great elevation and low temperature of the ice sheet. The Antarctic anticyclone is a more powerful and more extensive analogue of the Greenland anticyclone.
