Armina

Armina

an alliance of tribes formed at the end of the seventh century B.C. in the southwestern Armenian Highlands under the conditions of a weakening of state power in Urartu. This apparently played a large role in the formation of the Armenian people. According to some scholars, the term “Armina” was the basis of the word “Armenia.” Armina, in the Persian text of the trilingual Behistun inscription of King Darius I (approximately 520 B.C.), corresponds to the word “Urartu” in the Medean and Babylonian texts of this same inscription.
