Heck, Nicholas H.

Heck, Nicholas H. (Hunter)

(1882–1953) geophysicist; born in Heckton Mills, Pa. He had a lifetime career with the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (1904–44). He located earthquake foci in submarine, coastal, and mountain regions, applied radio acoustics to find undersea objects, and developed wire drag techniques to locate pinnacle rocks.
