Greenbrier River Trail
Location:1.5 miles from Caldwell; northern access from south end of Cass Scenic Railroad State Park (see separate entry).
Facilities:Packed gravel trail.
Activities:Hiking, bicycling, mountain biking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing. Trail also provides access to river for fishermen and canoeists.
Special Features:A former Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad line, the 77-mile trail runs from North Caldwell to Cass. It passes through numerous small towns, over 35 bridges, and through 2 tunnels. Throughout much of its length, the trail runs adjacent to Greenbrier River and is surrounded by peaks of the Allegheny Mountains. The surface is mostly hard-packed gravel; fat bicycle and wheelchair tires are recommended. Motorized vehicles are not permitted.
