hybrid dysgenesis

[′hī‚brid dis′jen·ə·səs] (genetics) A syndrome of abnormal traits that appears in the hybrids between certain strains of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster, and includes such traits as partial sterility and greatly elevated genetic mutations and chromosome rearrangements. Its cause is mobilization of a transposable element.
