(ă-mō'nē-ă-lī'ās-ēz), Enzymes that remove ammonia or an amino compound nonhydrolytically (hence lyases, EC class 4), by rupture of a C-N bond leaving a double bond (EC subgroup 4.3), for example, aspartate ammonia-lyase (aspartase).
