ICAN Atmosphere (International Commission for Air Navigation Atmosphere) Atmosphere in which the sea level pressure is 1013.25 hectopascals/760 mm/29.2 in of mercury, temperature is 15°C, air density is 0.002378 slugs/ft3 (1.225 kg/m3), acceleration due to gravity is 32.174 ft/s2 (9.809 m/s2), and the speed of sound is 761 mph or 1,116.4 ft/s (1225.35 km/h). The temperature lapse rate is assumed to be constant at the rate of 1.98°C/1000 ft (6.5°C/km) up to a height of 36,090 ft (11 km), above which it remains constant at −56.5°C. All aerodynamic calculations are based on the body in the ICAN atmosphere. The same as international standard atmosphere. |
