HomeGroup
HomeGroup
A feature in Windows, starting with Windows 7, that simplifies sharing files between Windows machines on the network. Windows 7 Starter and Home Basic users can join a homegroup, but cannot create one. HomeGroup is for Windows 7 and up only, and XP and Vista machines cannot participate. However, HomeGroups and workgroups can co-exist on the same network (see workgroup-based network). The HomeGroup control panel is used to set up the HomeGroup and select which folders are shared. It also generates a password that is used for other machines to connect. The password can be changed at any time.
