a city in the German Democratic Republic, in the district of Schwerin; situated on the Nebel River. Population, 37,300 (1969). It has a railroad station and is at the head of navigation on the Nebel. Industries include food (chiefly sugar), woodworking, sewn goods, and machine building. Peat is extracted in the vicinity of Güstrow.
