Hewlett, William R.

(1913– ) electrical engineer; born in Ann Arbor, Mich. He graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1936). With his friend, David Packard, he formed Hewlett-Packard in 1939 in Palo Alto, Calif., first producing resistance-capacitance audio oscillators in a garage. He was actively involved in the company until 1987.
