IFITM2 IFITM2 A gene on chromosome 11p15.5 that encodes an interferon-induced protein, which mediates innate cellular immunity against viral pathogens—e.g., influenza A H1N1, West Nile, and dengue viruses—by inhibiting the early steps of viral replication. IFITM2 induces cell cycle arrest and mediates apoptosis by caspase activation in a p53-independent manner. |
