Hat Pin
Hat PinA metal pin used to hold a woman’s hat in place on her head. The pin went from one side of the hat (in the vicinity of point A of the figure), through some of the hair near the front of the head, and stuck out of the hat on the other side (point B) about one-fourth inch. Depending on the style of hat being worn, the length of pin required might be from about three to eight or more inches. For the shorter pins, the pinhead might only be a spherical piece of celluloid one-eighth inch in diameter. The longer pins sometimes had ornate heads over an inch in diameter. Occasionally, a piece of fabric would be sewn over the pin head to make it somewhat match the hat.ThesaurusSeehatpin |
