(World-Wide Web)A modular, extensible World-Wide Webbrowser from Sun Microsystems that can execute programswritten in the Java programming language. These programs,known as "applets", can be included (like images) in HTMLpages. Because Java programs are compiled into machineindependent bytecodes, applets can run on any platform onwhich HotJava runs - currently (December 1995)SPARC/Solaris 2 and Intel 80x86/Windows 95, Windows NT.
