Size: About 2,500,000 acres.
Location:In Idaho, Montana, and Washington. Accessible by I-90; ID 3, 57, and 200; US 2, 10, 95, and 95A. Nearby cities/towns include Avery, Coeur d'Alene, Kellog, and Wallace. Consists of the Coeur d'Alene and portions of the Kaniksu and Saint Joe national forests.
Facilities:11 cabins, 42 campgrounds, dispersed camping, picnic sites, trails (1,984 miles), scenic drives, ski areas.
Activities:Camping, hunting, fishing, boating, rafting, hiking, mountain biking, OHV riding, horseback riding, swimming, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross-country and downhill skiing, rock hounding, prospecting, fossil hunting, berry picking, mushroom collecting, wildlife viewing.
Special Features:Situated in the east-central part of the Columbia Plateau, forests include portions of Idaho's most scenic mountain ranges: the Selkirk, Cabinet, Coeur d'Alene, and Bitterroot mountains. Points of interest include Emerald Creek Garnet Area, where visitors can dig for Idaho's state gem, and Lookout Pass Ski and Recreation Area.
