Holyoke College and a U.S. air force base are nearby.Holyokea city in the northeastern USA, in the state of Massachusetts, on the Connecticut River; a northern suburb of Springfield. Population, 46,000 (1975). Holyoke’s industry is represented by machine building (including turbines and other power equipment) and the production of paper and chemicals. There are also enterprises of light industry. The city has a hydroelectric power plant on the Connecticut River. |
