Gvirgvini

Gvirgvini

the stepped wooden tentlike roof of the darbazi, a Georgian folk dwelling. It consists of several rows of logs or beams that become smaller toward the top, placed so they overlap, either parallel with the walls (in square gvirgvini) or at an angle to them (in polyhedral gvirgvini). At the top in the center there is an opening that lets in the light and allows smoke to escape. The gvirgvini is similar to the roofs of the Armenian glkhatun and the Azerbaijani karadam.
