Location:At the western city limits of Hoquiam, Washington, beside Grays Harbor bay.
Facilities:Boardwalk trail, viewing sites.
Special Features:Grays Harbor is one of four major staging areas for shorebirds in North America. Each spring, up to one million shorebirds gather, or stage, here to store up fat reserves and rest for the nonstop flight to their northern breeding grounds. Peregrine falcons and merlins are also seen at that time.
Habitats: 1,500 acres of tidal flats, salt marsh, freshwater ponds, and deciduous woodlands.
Access: Open during daylight hours.
Wild life: Shorebirds, particularly western sandpipers, but also dunlins, black-footed albatross, and semipalmated plovers.
