Gray, Bowman (Jr.)

(1907–69) cigarette executive; born in Winston-Salem, N.C. In 1930 he joined R. J. Reynolds Tobacco (of which his father was president), and served variously as president, chairman, and CEO (1959–69). A prominent apologist for the tobacco industry, he was responsible for developing the Winston and Salem brands and diversifying the company into the food industry.
