Guðmundsson, Kristmann

(krĭst`män gvüth`münsôn), 1901–83, Icelandic novelist. Guðmundsson lived in Norway from 1924 to 1937 and wrote in both Norwegian and Icelandic. His sensitive novels and stories of love, remarkable for profound psychological insight, include The Bridal Gown (1927, tr. 1931), and Morning of Life (1929, tr. 1936). Among Guðmundsson's later works are Winged Citadel (1938, tr. 1940), Playthings (1961), and The Square (1965).
