Huai Ho Plain

the southern part of the North China Plain, in the basin of the middle and lower courses of the Huai Ho. The plain, which is composed primarily of fluvial deposits, contains large lakes, including Hungtse Hu and Kaopao Hu. Numerous reservoirs, canals, and dikes provide irrigation. The Huai Ho Plain is crossed by the Grand Canal. Wheat is grown in the north, and rice in the south, on irrigated land, which occupies an area of approximately 5 million hectares. Densely populated, the Huai Ho Plain contains the large cities of Suchow. Huainan, and Pangpu.
