Harvesting Strategy

Harvesting Strategy

In marketing, the plan to discontinue a product after sales drop below a certain, defined point. Under a harvesting strategy, a company frontloads its marketing expenditures in order to maximize market share early. The company then gradually eliminates these expenditures. The product continues to be sold on the power of its market share and goodwill until sales decline to the stated point; it is then withdrawn. A harvesting strategy is intended to reduce costs while extracting as much revenue as possible from a product.
