Hertzian oscillator

[′hərt·sē·ən ′äs·ə‚lād·ər] (electromagnetism) A generator of electric dipole radiation; consists of two capacitors joined by a conducting rod having a small spark gap; an oscillatory discharge occurs when the two halves of the oscillator are raised to a sufficiently high potential difference. A dumbbell-shaped conductor in which electrons oscillate from one end to the other, producing electric dipole radiation.
