Ahaetulla

(also Dryophis), a genus of snakes of the family Colubridae. The body, which is very slender and whiplike, reaches 1.8 m in length. The snout is elongated and sharply pointed; in some species it ends in a small, mobile proboscis-like tip. The bright coloration is green, blue-green, yellow-green, or bronze. The sides are sometimes spotted, and the lighter ventral side usually has two longitudinal yellow or light blue stripes. There are 11 species, distributed in southern Asia, the Greater Sunda Islands, and the Philippines. Most species are arboreal; some swim and dive well. The snakes feed on lizards, tree frogs, and small birds. They paralyze their prey with poison. Ahaetulla are ovoviviparous, with the female giving birth to as many as 22 young.
