Gurdon, J.B.

(1933-) British experimental embryologist who demonstrated that a nucleus taken from the differentiated gut cell of a clawed toad, injected into an enucleated egg, could produce a normal adult. In other words, he demonstrated that a fully differentiated cell still contains the genetic information to direct the development of the cells in the entire animal (see TOTIPOTENCY).
