Armelagos, George J. (John)

(1936– ) physical anthropologist; born in Lincoln Park, Mich. He performed field research in the Sudan (1963), then taught at the Universities of Utah (1965–69) and Massachusetts (1969–90) before joining the University of Florida in 1990. He made major contributions to paleopathology in human evolution, especially regarding effects of nutritional stress and infectious disease on bone development.
