Hutcheson, William Hutcheson, William (Levi)(1874–1953) labor leader; born in Saginaw County, Mich. A carpenter, he became president of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America (1915–52). Active within the American Federation of Labor (AFL), he was such a conservative that he opposed President Roosevelt's New Deal. And as a staunch proponent of craft unions, he fell out with his fellow AFL leaders over attempts to get together with the Congress of Industrial Organizations. |
