Herpes simplex-1 A herpesvirus that typically affects the body above the waist, causing most oral herpes–cold sores and fever blisters, and is often accompanied by stomatitis, conjunctivitis, necrotizing meningoencephalitis, encephalitis; HHV-1 resides in sensory ganglia near the site of infection and multiples during episodic periods of impaired cellular immunity, resulting in disease recurrence; evoked by heat, cold, sunlight, UV radiation–ie, sunlight, hypersensitivity reactions, corticosteroids, and physical or emotional stress Portal of entry Fibroblast growth factor receptor.
