Hero of Labor
Hero of Labor
an honorific title, established by the Central Executive Committee and Council of People’s Commissars of the USSR on July 27, 1927. It was awarded to persons who made outstanding contributions in the fields of production, scientific work, and state or social service and who had served as workers or civil servants no less than 35 years. In connection with the ukase of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet (Dec. 27, 1938) “Concerning the Establishment of the Highest Degree of Distinction—the Title of Hero of Socialist Labor,” the granting of the title of Hero of Labor came to an end.
