Gunt

 

a river in the Tadzhik SSR, a right tributary of the Piandzh. Length, 296 km; basin area, 13,700 sq km. It takes its source on the northern slopes of the Iuzhnyi Alichur Range in the eastern Pamirs. Until its junction with the Muz-duaireksai River, it is called the Gurumdy; from there until its junction with the Bashgumbez, it is called the Irikiak; until it flows into Lake Iashil’kul’, it is known as the Alichur; finally, flowing out of the lake, it is called the Gunt. From here, it flows along a narrow valley between the Rushan and Shug-nan ranges. The average annual discharge at its mouth (near the city of Khorog) is 106 cu m per sec. The Khorog Hydroelectric Power Plant is located on the Gunt.
