Hillsborough disaster

Hillsborough disaster

A mass disaster which occurred in 1989 at the Hillsborough football stadium in Sheffield, England, during an FA Cup semi-final match between Liverpool FC and Nottingham Forest FC, in which 96 Liverpool fans died (from crush injuries and suffocation) and 766 were injured.
The official inquiry, the Taylor Report, attributed the tragedy to a failure of police to control the crowd, and led to elimination of standing terraces in large football venues in England and Scotland.
