1937–, king of Norway (1991–); son of Olaf VOlaf V,1903–91, king of Norway (1957–91), son and successor of Haakon VII. In 1929 he married Princess Martha of Sweden (d. 1954). Following the German invasion of Norway, Olaf took an active part in the struggle for liberation.

His marriage to a commoner, Sonja Haraldsen, caused considerable public controversy. He has participated in international sailing competitions and has represented Norway in the Olympic games.
