Grant in Aid

Funding that a government gives to a private entity for a specific purpose. For example, a government may give a grant in aid to a charity that assists persons in buying their own homes or to a business that invests in a favored industry such as green energy. Grantees must abide by government regulations upon receiving a grant in aid (for example, they may be required to account for government funds separately), but they have general autonomy over how to specifically spend the money.
