Guliaipole

 

a city (since 1938) and center of Guliaipole Raion, Zaporozh’e Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. Located on the Gaichur River (part of the Dnieper basin), 8 km from the Guliaipole railroad station on the Pologi-Chaplino line. Population, 16,000 (1970). Guliaipole has an agricultural machinery plant, a lacquer and paint plant, an automobile repair shop, a household goods plant, and a cheese plant, as well as a shoe factory. During the Civil War (1918–20) the city was the center of the Makhno movement.
