Granma

 

a daily newspaper; the organ of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba. Granma was created in October 1965 through the merger of the newspapers Hoy and Revolución. The first official newspaper of the Communist Party of Cuba, it was named after the yacht on which the insurgent detachment of F. Castro Ruz landed on Cuba in 1956, beginning the partisan war against the dictatorship of F. Batista. Granma is published in Havana in Spanish, French, and English, and its circulation was 500,000 in 1971.
