Immunoprophylaxis
Immunoprophylaxis
a branch of practical immunology concerned with preventing infectious diseases by injecting immunological preparations, such as vaccines, immune serums, and gamma globulins, to create immunity.
Immunoprophylaxis helps to prevent many infectious diseases, such as poliomyelitis, yellow fever, diphtheria, tetanus, and smallpox. Another goal of immunoprophylaxis is the development of better vaccines, particularly against typhoid fever, cholera, and dysentery. The methods of immunoprophylaxis will probably be used in the future to control parasitic diseases, such as schistosomiasis, malaria, and helminthiases.
