Jarar, Gulam Rahman

 

Born 1915, in the village of Lalmi in Nangarhar Province. Afghan writer, publicist, and scholar. Writes in Pashto.

Jarar worked on the magazine Iqtisad and on newspapers. He was the editor of the newspaper Hewad, helped compile the anthology Afghan Poets (1941-42), and participated in the preparation of an Afghan dictionary (1951). He published Afghan Customs in 1942. Jarar is the author of the tale Unknown Warrior (1948), as well as verses, articles, essays, and short tales in which he opposes vestiges of tribalism in Afghan society. He and S. Rishtin published the anthology Afghan Stories (1952).
