Agîrbiceanu, Ion
Born Sept. 19, 1882, in the village of Chenade, in Transylvania; died May 28, 1963, in Bucharest. Rumanian writer and academician. Born into the family of a peasant.
A theologian by training. Agirbiceanu supported Christian morality in his novels The Law of the Body (1912), The Law of Reason (1927), and Victory. Attaining social perspective, Agirbiceanu portrayed the life of worker-peasants in his novel The Archangels (1914) and faithfully depicted the political mentality of bourgeois society in his novel The Sectarians (1938).
