Health Authority A now-defunct (as of 2002) NHS body which was responsible for providing strategic leadership for improving health, identifying the healthcare needs of its resident population, securing through its contracts with providers a package of hospital and community health services to reflect those needs, monitoring the development of services, and ensuring collaboration and joint planning with the Local Authority and other agencies—roles which are now assumed by Strategic Health Authorities. |
