Grande de Santiago

 

a river in Mexico. The Grande de Santiago is approximately 500 km long and drains an area of 125,000 sq km. It flows out of Lago de Chapala and empties into the Pacific Ocean. The Grande de Santiago cuts through the Sierra Madre Occidental in a narrow gorge, forming waterfalls and irapids. The mean flow rate is 380 cu m per sec. The river is unnavigable. It is used for irrigation. There is a hydroelectric power plant on the Grande de Santiago.
