IEP

A documented program of intervention mandated for each child provided with education-related rehabilitation services under federal legislation. The program guarantees a free and appropriate public education for children with disabilities. Decisions relating to IEPs must be approved in Admission, Review and Discharge conferences mandated by federal legislation. Participants in these conferences should include parents or guardians, special educators, rehabilitation providers, and others as appropriate.

Written specifications for the management of labor, delivery, and recovery as desired by the expectant mother or couple and approved by the physician or midwife. Abbreviation: IEP
A federally required, individual program of goals and methods for addressing needs of students receiving special education and related services in public schools. The goals and methods are required under the provisions of federal legislation providing for a free and appropriate public education for individuals with disabilities, as amended (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act [IDEA]-PL 101–476, amended in 2004). The law mandates that for each child receiving special education services under the act, a written plan, involving input from teachers, service providers, and parents, will document the needs of the child, how those special needs will be addressed, and when and how the effectiveness of the services will be evaluated.

individualized family service plan

Abbreviation: IFSP
A written document, developed by service personnel and parents of young children with disabilities, that describes plans for intervention and educational placement. Twenty-five percent of occupational therapists now practice in school settings in order to meet the legislated mandate for public schools to provide related services for children with disabilities.

medical care plan

The goals of the physician's care and the treatment instituted to accomplish them.

nursing care plan

The statement of the goals and objectives of the nursing care provided for the patient and the activities or tasks required to accomplish the plan, including the criteria to be used to evaluate the effectiveness and appropriateness of the plan.

treatment plan

A therapeutic strategy that may incorporate patient education, dietary adjustment, an exercise program, drug therapy, and the participation of nursing and allied health professionals. Treatment plans are esp. important in the optimal management of complex or chronic illnesses.

Abbreviation: WAP
A flexible script that patients may use to guide their own outpatient therapy when they experience deterioration in a chronic condition.

Patient care

WAPs were initially introduced into asthma therapy to guide the use of inhaled and oral steroids, but they can be used for other conditions.

WAPs typically include: 1. How to recognize signs of worsening illness; 2. treatment protocols; 3. the duration of and how to modify or increase the intensity of treatments; 4. When to seek additional help from health care professionals.

ISO 4217 code for the Irish pound. It was introduced in 1928, replacing the British pound sterling, though it was pegged to the sterling at a one-to-one ratio for quite some time. The peg was abandoned in the 1970s when Ireland joined the European Monetary System. The Irish pound was taken out of circulation in 2002 and replaced with the euro.
