Grain Scale

Grain Scale

a scale for determining the weight of a certain volume of grain. Grain scales may be calibrating, standard, or working. The last is used for direct determination of the weight of a volume of grain. All grain scales have the same basic design; they differ primarily in the material of which they are made and in the precision of individual parts and of assemblage. The weight of the grain is measured in a cylinder of a specific volume, and the scale has a device that ensures almost uniform filling of the cylinder with grain. In the USSR, 1-liter and 20-liter grain scales are used.
