Guertin Laws Guertin LawsLaws in each U.S. state requiring an insurer to pay a cash surrender value to a term life policyholder under certain circumstances. If the policyholder has had the policy for three years or longer and lapses due to non-payment of a premium, the Guertin laws apply and the cash surrender value must be paid. These laws are designed to protect long-term policyholders even though term life policies usually do not have cash surrender values. |
