Hyperinhibition
Hyperinhibition
a form of external inhibition that arises mainly in cells of the cerebral cortex when there is an excessive increase in the intensity, duration, or frequency of a stimulus. It develops when there is a deepening of nerve-cell parabioses, an exceeding of the limit of the efficiency of nerve-cell parabioses, and a decrease in functional mobility (lability). Biologically, hyperinhibition plays the role of protective inhibition.
