Iasnogorsk

 

a city (since 1958) and the administrative center of Iasnogorsk Raion, Tula Oblast, RSFSR. Situated on the upper course of the Vashana River, a tributary of the Oka. Railroad station on the Tula-Moscow line, 35 km north of Tula. Population, 21,000 (1974).

Industry is represented by a milk plant, the Metallist Plant, and a machine-building plant that produces primarily mining equipment, electric locomotives, and pumps. An evening technicum for the manufacture of mining equipment is located in the city. Iasnogorsk has a museum of local lore.
