Adams John Quincy Adams, John Quincy 1767-1848. The sixth president of the United States (1825-1829). As secretary of state (1817-1825) he helped formulate the Monroe Doctrine. After his presidency he served in the House of Representatives (1831-1848), where he advocated antislavery measures. |
