Hoffmann, Erich
Born Apr. 25, 1868, in Witzmitz; died May 8, 1959, in Bonn. German dermatologist and syphilologist.
Hoffmann graduated from the University of Berlin. In 1908 and 1909 he was a professor at Halle, and in 1910 he became a professor at the University of Bonn. In 1905 he and F. Schaudin discovered the cause of syphilis, Spirochaeta pallida. Hoffmann’s principal works were devoted to the study of experimentally induced syphilis and questions of its diagnosis and cure and to the study of certain skin diseases.
