high pitch
high pitch Fine pitch is used for takeoff and for flying at low speed. High or course pitch is for flying at high speed and during cruise. The feathered pitch is used to prevent any damage to the propeller in case of engine shutting down. The pitch angle increased continuously from fine to feathered pitch. The pitch of a propeller blade set at a high angle other than the feathering angle. A propeller blade at a high pitch angle takes a greater bite of air than one at a low pitch. Consequently, a high pitch produces more thrust at a given RPM than a low pitch. Unlike at takeoff and landing, when forward air speeds are low and the propeller pitch is fine, the blade angle needs to be increased as the speed increases, or is coarsened, for the angle of attack to remain optimum. Also called a coarse pitch.AcronymsSeeHPhigh pitch
